Our program uses research-based approaches including the following:
Cognitive Therapy (CT)
Cognitive Therapy (CT) is a relatively short-term, focused psychotherapy to address a wide range of psychological difficulties. The focus of our CT therapy is to help children and adolescents understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Cognitive therapy helps the client learn effective self-help skills that can assist them to change the way they think, feel, and behave. CT is action-oriented, practical, and helps the patient gain independence and effectiveness in dealing with real-life issues (The American Institute for Cognitive Therapy). Silver Springs has therapists trained in CT who are available to help your child or teen.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a speciailized approach for young children ages 2 to 7 years old with hard to manage behaviors. PCIT is an approach to therapy that works to improve the quality of the parent-child relationship and change their interactions. Children and caregivers are seen together in PCIT and the therapist observes and coaches caregivers in specific skills (PCIT International). Silver Springs has therapists trained in providing PCIT.
Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an approach to therapy that research has shown to be effective in alleviating emotional distress for children and adolescents who have experienced trauma. TF-CBT addresses the needs of children and teens who are experiencing PTSD symptoms, depression, behavior problems, and other difficulties related to traumatic life experiences (National Child Traumatic Stress Network). Silver Springs has therapists who are specially trained and certified to provide TF-CBT.
