The curriculum mirrors that of public schools. Each year a number of our students are able to make the transition back to public school settings. Students who continue to need the special education provided by Martin Luther School may continue here through the completion of eighth grade.
Curriculum and Instruction at Martin Luther School includes both academic and social skills programs, which follow the Pennsylvania Core Standards in all subject areas.
We employ differentiated instruction techniques to meet the specific needs of our students.
Formal programs used are: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journeys for Language Arts, Sadlier Progress in Mathematics, Pearson Interactive Science, Pearson My World for Social Studies, and Second Step for Social Skills.
Classroom instruction is enhanced and supported through online skills practice in Language Arts and Mathematics. We research and implement evidence-based instructional strategies and monitor student achievement through state and local testing and regular progress monitoring. A curriculum committee monitors the professional development needs and activities of our staff and is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Parents and caregivers are welcome to review curriculum standards and instructional pacing charts followed by our certified staff and specialists.
